[The deceased 'officer was bom at Brooklyn, on September 3, 1847. " In 1866 he graduated from the United States, Naval Academy, and thirty years later' ho atjtained ilag rank.' He was in command 'of the Atlantic battleship ; fleet which visited Auckland ill tliO 'course of a cruise round the world, two years ago.
