Ingrain Button, of Mastertun, having falcon his I.D.S. degree at Edinburgh, is returning to New Zealand tu practise dentistry. toeent callers" at the High Commissioner's office have been:—Miss Ida Cooper (Wellington), Jliss M. M'Glnshan (Dunedin), —. D. G. Beaumont (Wellington), Jliss Frances E. Anibury (Auckland), Jlr. Edwin J. and Mrs. Wilson (Auckland). Jlr. A. G. Gow, son of Jlr. Geo'. Gow, superintending engineer of the Northern Steam Ship Company, Ltd., Auckland, has succeeded in gaining the diploma of A.G.T.C. at the Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical College, in electrical and civil engineering. . ■ Sir. A. Pel], who has been returned again as Unionist M.P. for Great Yarmouth, is a New Zcalander, a traveller, a statistician, and the author of sevr eral anti-Free-trade works. • Mr. Fell was born at Nelson (New Zealand) in 1850, being tho son of Mr. Alfred Fell, who went oiit with the first settlors. He was elected M.P. for Great Yarmouth in 1906, and re-elected in January, 1910. Mr. Cathcart Wason,. formerly of New Zealand, and' now M.P. once more for Orkney and Shetland, lias been returned! unopposed as a Radical. These islands always poll last when there is any contest, and the election takes two days, and on one occasion Parliament assembled without waiting for tho result from the constituency. ■ . ■ ■Mr.. T. Napier' Bell, F.G.S., an associate of tho Otago School of Mines, etc., and a distinguished scientist, who has been assisting manager of the' Bischbfi" Extended Mine, has left to report on somo tin properties in Northern Nigeria for the New African Company of Londonand "Paris, an appointment that.it is. understood,' carries a salary of ,£I6OO a year. . Jlr. A. St. E. Hamersley,' tho Unionist M.P. for Woodstock (Oxfordshire), : who has just been re-elected by a- majority of 392, practised as a barrister in 'New Zealand, and afterwards in Canada. He married a Wellington girl, Jliss Isabella' Mauil Snow, daughter of Mr: Hastings Snow. Rugby football in Canterbury owes its start to Mr. Hamersley, who had a distinguished record as a footballer. He captained the English Rugby team in IS7'l, and represented England four times on the football field. In New Zealand Mr. Hamersley also took a keen interest in volunteering. Hβ. was captain of the C. Battery, commanded u contingent .at Parihaka, itnil attained' tho rank of Colonel in the N.Z.. Militia.- Mr. Hamerslcy's majority at this ■ election showed a decrease of 328 compared ..with the. figure's of tho last election; . .. ■ . .•..•■•.'

Twenty-four games wero played, as a result of■'which' Mrs. Johns, a new inembor, carried off the : first prize, a steel bead handbag, with a score of .174; the second prize—a crimson morocco writing case—going to Mrs. Carter, whoso score was 109. To Miss Mina Caldow, the wellknown South Island contralto, fell the special prizo—a greenstone brooch— awarded tho lady who played as a gentleman. Mr. Obert, with a scoro of 173, won tho gentleman's prize, a greenstone pendant. Among the'ladies present, Mrs.Wray' Pajliser wore a- princess gown of purpW with n front panel of gold and black embroidery, and a round white yoke, amethyst- ornaments; Miss K.
