LABOUR TICKET SELECTED.
, FOE CITY ELECTIONS. ' 'A special meeting of the Wellington?, main, branch of the New Zealand Labour*' party was held in the Trades Hall lasS . evening. Mr.' D. M'Laren, M.P., presi-; dent of the branch, occupied the chair, and there was a good attendance of members. • The meeting was called for the purpose of selecting eight Labour candidates to contest the forthcoming municipal election. In accordance with the resolution passed at a previous meeting of the party, Messrs. D. M'Laren, JI.P., and A. H. Hindmarsh were accepted without being required to submit themselves to., preliminary ballot. Sis'candidates remained to be selected. ' Following is tho list' of eleven nominees, fromwhich tho selection was. made:—Messrs. E. J. Carey, AY. Gilbert, I. Hazel, W. ,T, Jordan, E. Kennedy, P. Muir, W. C. Noot, M. J. Iteardon, F. liayling, T. Smith, and AV. T. Young. The original list of nominees included' fifteen names, but four, candidates were excluded on declining to sign the 'partjpledge. The ballot wa9 conducted undeu the proportional- representation system, with a single transferable vote. Mr. P. J. O'Regan attended by request of the" / party; nud assisted tho scrutineers in counting the votes. Tho ballot resulted in tho selection of' the following candidates:—Messrs. E. J, Carev, W. J. Jordan, I. Hazel, M. J. Keardon, F. Eeyling. and 'T. Smith. These, together with Messrs. M'Laren and Hindmarsh, , will-be the Labour ticket ia the April municipal election. A committee consisting of the can<J)4 dates and the Executive Committee of the. party was appointed to draft a plat--. form and outline a method of cam-t.; paigtt- _;
