MAYOR OP PETONE OFFENDED.- ' At the monthly meeting of the Weln i lington. Education Board on Tuesday, i [last, it fell to the board to appoint for the'ensuing term two representatives on. the Petone Technical School Board. The board's representatives for the previous term-were the chairman (Mr. Kobt. lee) and Mr. J. W. M'Ewan, the Mayor of Petone. In proposing that Messrs.. D. M'Kenzie, chairman of the Petone Main School. Committee, aud G. London, should represent tho board for tho n«w term, Mr- Lee said that he himself would be unable to act, and indicated that Mr. M'Ewan was fully occupied with his public duties. Messrs. D. M'Kenzie and G. London were accordingly appointed, and Jlr. M'Ewan was accorded a ' vote of thanks for his past services as the board's representative. ■ . -".
Yesterday, Mr. M'Ewan, in the course of a conversation with a representative of The Dominion, referred to this, and said that he had never even been asked by Mr Lee or any other member of the board whether he would be able to continue to act as the board's representative on. tho. Petone Technical School Board. It was true that he was a busy man, with a great many calls upon his time—so many, indeed, that he would have to ask to be relieved of some of his minor obligations—but he had certainly not contemplated withdrawing .hie active interest in the educational affaire of tho borough. As Mayor, he considered that to be, part of his civic responsibility, and he. Tegretted that the Education Board should have acted to., wards himself as it had done.
