CHARTS RE ALCOHOL.
FOE DISPLAY IN THE SCHOOLS. Some playfulness ou the 6ubject o? "temperance" was introduced into a brief discussion by the members of tho Wellington Education Board yesterday as to whether the board should accept tho offer of the Education Department to supply temperance charts for distribution to the schools. Two specimens of the charts were displayed to view in the board-room, and when the subject came up for discussion, members eyed the exhibits critically. ■ The chairman (lit. Robert Lee) observed that some of the statements set forth in the chart savoured of exaggeration, such as, for example,' classifying alcohol with strychnine. Mr. A. W. Hogg, JI.P., pointing out that temperance did not necessarily mean total abstinence, said there were occasions when whisky had its good points. : However, the board, after further playful references to the subject matter of the charts, decided to accept the Department's offer.
