SWIMMING.
SWIFTS CLUB CARNIVAL. Teams for the flying squadron race for the Walker and Hall cup, to'be swum at the Te Aro Baths to-morrow afternoon, are as under:—Thcrndon: K. Healy, l'Y Roberts, C. Brice, R. Konayne, R. Nelson; Swifts: B. C. Freyberg, H. Capper, C. V. Fordham, A. Smith', G. R. lJaterson; Wellington: C. Stranger, J. H. Mawby, S. Murrell, B. O'Neill, W. Wilson. Reserves for the throe, teams respectively are E. Picot, E. E. Jenkinson, and J. Stratford. Each of the-five men in the teams has to swim a distance of 100 yards, the team cutting out the total distance of 500 yards in fastest tinio to hold the cup for twelve months and to receive five gold medals from the Swifts Club. A varied prograrnino of other events will be gone through during the afternoon, including handicap'races tor seniors and juniors, (living competitions, water polo, and a number of novel contests. The 'water-polo gamo will be a
"try out" for those -who have been training for places in the Wellington representative- team for the coming ship, and consequently a iirst-class game should be seen. Afternoon tea and the Tramways Band should assist materially in ; enlivening the proceedings. -
The heats of the 50 yards inter-club handicap in connection with the Swifts carnival were to have been decided yesterday at Te Aro, but as only half the entrants put : in an appearance owing to the weather, three of the heats only were got off. Results:— First heat: L. Blundell,' osec, 1; J. Robinson, 4sec 2; L. Bridge, 2sec, 3. Also started: S..Murray, Usee; C. Murray, 7sec..; W. Mactfregor, ssec.; A. Crowtber, isec.; E. M'Leod, isec; V.
