CITY COUNCIL
FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The fortnightly meeting of tho Wellington City Council was held last evening, there being present:—The Mayor (Mr. T. M. AVilford, M.P.), and Councillors W. H. Morrah, J. Smith, A. R. Atkinson, J. Trevor, J. E. Fitzgerald, W. H. P. Barber, G. Shirtcliffe, R. Fletcher, D. M'Laren, M.P., G. Frost, F. Cohen, and W. Thompson. • It. was decided, on the recommendation of <tho Tramways Committee, that tenders be called for 250 poles, 10 miles of wire, and 27 transformers for the extension of • the lighting mains, and Jhat authority be granted for the purchase of points and crossings for. tramways maintenanco as recommended by the city engineer. It was reported (hat-during the period December 13, 1910-January 24, 1911, 65 applications had been received for permits to erect, alter, or extend buildings, and that in Si instances plans had been approved and permits issued. After some debate, the recommendation of the Baths and Reserves Committee "that the request of a number of swimmers that the To Aro Baths bo opened at 5.45 a.m. during tho summer months be not acceded to," was referred back to the committee for further consideration, the general feeling being that the request was a reasonable one. It was decided to inform the Brooklyn Municipal Electors' Association that the council cannot undertake to incur, any expenditure in forming- or acquiring recreation grounds for: Brooklyn ..this year: The lease to the Kilfm-nie School Committee of portion of Section 7. Town Belt, was fixed for a term of twenty-one years, at a rental of 10s. per.annum.
