FROM CIRCUS TO ZOO.
"KING DICK'S" MATE. King Dick, of-the Wellington Zoo, having now been; happily .mated, the details of the • "marriage settlements," as set forth in a special report by the Reserves Committee to the City Couneiljlast evening, may no doubt be of interest. 'I he council has accepted the offer of .Messrs. Wirth Bros, for the loan of "Mrs. Dick until their return to New Zealand (estimated tobe within two years) upon the following conditions:— ' . _ (a) The council to have the loan of ■the lioness free of charge. ■(b) The council .to keep the lioness free of charge to Messrs. Wirth Bros. (c) Should any cubs be reared./the: following conditions to apply to; the ownership of some:—lfone cub only is reared it is to be the property of the city; if two cubs are reared, one to belong to the council,, and one to Messrs. Wirth Bros; if three cubs are reared, one to belong to the council, and two to Messrs. Wirth Bros.; if four, cubs are reared; two to belong to the council, and two to Messrs. .Wirth Bros.
The' corporation' will; take every care'ofthe lioness, but it is to be under no other responsibility or liability therefor. The lioness is to be returned to Messrs. Wirth Bros, after rearing of tho cubs (if any) at such time as the circus may be in Wellington. - A plate is to be fixed on tho front'of the lioness's cage, indicating that the animal is the property of Messrs. Wirth Bros., and under temporary loan to the Wellington City Corporation.
