VANCOUVER SERVICE.

BRISBANE'S CLAIMS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. Melbourne, January 17. Mr. .Tosiah Thomas, Federal PostmasterGeneral, promised a. deputation of Queensland Federal members of Parliament to keep Brisbane's claims in mind when ho was arranging for a new Canadian-Au.--traliau service, now that Canada hid arranged a service direct with Now Zealand. Mr. Fisher, Federal Prime Minister, referring to tho matter, said it might be advantageous for Australia to iiare a scrvico between Sydney and San Francisco as substitute for the Vancouver service. It was very questionable indeed whether more important interests would not be served than by the Vancouver line. The matter, however, had not yet received Cabinet consideration.

REGRET IN CANADA. (Rec. January 18, 1.5 a.m.)

Ottawa, January 17. Regret is expressed in Ministerial circles that Australia is unable to agree to the inclusion of a. New Zealand port in the Vancouver mail service.

It is felt that Canada's interests aro closely bound with New Zealand's, and that failurft to foster trade relations would not be in keeping with the existence of the reciprocity treaty.
