AN DIP.ORTANT JUDGMENT.

A judgment of interest to all farmers was given in England recently by Judge Wheeler, K.C. . • -. ' ; The claim was for £15, £5 for damage :to a, fence-' by, the defendant's bull and £10.for the depreciation of the value of two of. the plaintiff's pedigree cows. Tho judge said that the damage .to the fence was .admitted, and on that claim there, would bo a \-erdict for_tho plaintiff. ;On .the .question of tb'.o'damage' done to trie cows by. the in %rip'rity 'of;,.their, calves, he' decided this'the defendant' was'" liable for the ultimate consequences which followed the trespass by tho bull. Ho.had some difficulty in assessing damages, as tho calves had not yet been" born, but if the. hull .was not of equal ; cbaractor,and breed to j:ho cows.somo' damage was recoverable, the quantum of wliich it was impossible for him to say >at pro-" sent. He, however, gave judgment for £5 damage, to the fence, and £2 deterioration of'the stock, and as it was la'caso of importance, allowed'costs on the £15 claim.
