The Collector of Customs at Dunedia (Mr. Wm. Sibbald) has held an inquiry concerning the fire on the Monowai. which occurred at the southern port cr.-Decem-ber 26. Evidence was River; that the hatches were closed down wher. the steamer left Lyt'clton, and ivero not opened until the Tire was discovered. It is understood that there is nothing to indicate what caused the outbreak. Tho evidence has been forwarded to the Marino Department at Wellington.
