RIFLE BATTALION BAND.
ITS EARLY'APPEARANCE PROBABLE. < ; It is so long ago now since the First Wellington Rifle' Battalion secured tho services of Sir. J. H. Gruar (formerly of/Kneller. Hall,, the' famous English military band academy), for tho purpose_ of reorganising its regimental band, and so very little has been heard of the band in the interim, that tho man in the street may be pardoned for romancing that tho aforesaid band was "only a rumour.", 'From inquiry made yesterday by a representative of Tue Dominion with reference to the band, it would seem that the battalion's musicians are a very, solid, and, it might also, be said, a vory accomplished "fact, ■• That'/they, have not yet seen fit to appear in the glare of the .noonday sun .\st due to.- circumstances over which they have had no control. They Jiavo had no'clothes—that is to Say, no official clothes—and until these 'have been procured the band will' 'continue to be., coy.' .-.Matters' connected with tho wardrobe,, however, are progressing. The men' have, been measured for their uniformSj'.'.and'as soon as the style has been authorised by Gazette (which, it is understood; will bo next week), the first public appearance of the band—a;, real, feg'imehtal band, to be at tho bidding or the 'O.C. 'Battalion—will be definitely settled... FORT DORSET LICHTS. . WARNING TO MARINERS. The defence authorities have notified the Marine Department that'two electric arc lamps, .each of approximately 2po candle-power, have been, erected at the. Dorset Point Defences io'r drift purposes.
