NELSON MILITARY DISTRICT. RETIREMENT OF LIEUT.-COLONEL JOYCE. In consequence of the absorption of the. Nelson military district within the sphere of authority of Lieutcnant-Colo-,nel J. Hawkins, Officer Commanding the Canterbury Military District, Lieuten-ant-Colonel L. J. Joyce,-N.Z.M., at present commanding at Nelson, will be retired. Lieutenant-Colonel Joyce was formerly district adjutant at Wellington. On'the occasion of Field Marshal Lord Kitchener's visit to Wellington last year, Lieutenant-Colonel Joyce was placed in command of'.thp .defensive position assigned to the Nelson troops during tho field-manoeuvres at Johnsouville. \ He has lately been at the Tauherenikau camp.
