His -Excellency the Governor left for Christchurch last evening attended by his secretary, Mr. Kerr Clark. He will go on to Invercargill and on Friday will visit Stewart Island, returning to Inverbargill that evening. On Saturday .morning bis Excellency will motor to Winton and in the afternoon lie will turn the first sod of the Invercargill municipal tramways. Lord Islington' will spend Sunday in 'Invercargill and on Monday will visit Mataura and then go on to. Dunedin. Subsequently he ivill pay a visit to Mount Cook. His-Excellency will, be absent from Wellington for about two weeks. ....'■

Yesterday afternoon, Mr. James Sinclair, ex-Mnyor of Waimate, and Councillor for many years, was presented with a purso of sovereigns by the Mayor of Wiiimate. Mr. Francis, on behalf of the citizefts, spoke in glowing terms of Mr. Sinclair's services during his 36 years'' residence,' ho having filled some of the most important positions in the town. The "Masonic. Hope presented him with a solid silver tea service, in recognition of his 18 years' secretaryship. The Royal Arch Chapter a few-evenings ago also presented him with a jewel appertaining to the office of scribe.
