AUCKLAND BOARD ACTIVE,
(By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.! Auckland, January 8. The yenr that lias just closed has been one of considerable activity for the Auckland Hospital BcJrd. The board has alrehdy started to bring up to'date and reorganise the many institutions under its care. Six months ago the board agreed to the policy formulated by the chairman (Mr. P. 11. Mackay) and the scheme now in hand may be summarised as follows' (1) Centralisation of all the board's administrative work; (2) the introduction at tho hospital of the eight hours system; (3) the rearrangement of the work of the honorary surgeons so that cases may have liiore supervision thaii in the past; (i) the erection of a new boilerhouse and kitchen at the hospital. rendered necessary by the smallness of the kitchen and its position being too far away from what is now the centre of operations; (5) the installation of electric light, which will be a great boom to the hospital and from a hygienic standpoint will be in the best interests of the institution; and (6) extension of the nurse's home at the hospital at a cost of i£17,500, which will supply a want that has been long felt, and,in the course of a year will be an accomplished fact.
