A FREAK HEIFER.
A 16 TEST. ' An. Australian writer ;s responsible for the following:— . - ■ "Not long ago lit was ntatcd that a •sine months'■ old heifer,! whoso milk flow had been induced by; other calves Buc/.ing her, was now a contributor to the Dungog (Now South Wales) factory. Many people doubted the statement, but it was afterwards verified by tho manager of the butter factory there. But a much more remitrkablb-aspect'of the phenomenon has. been demonstrated., Tho milk appeared to lie exceedingly Tich and samples wero submitted to the dairy expert of the Agricultural Department, with the following result:— Solids, 20.59; fat, 16.00; solius not fat, 4.89. The 16 per cent.' of fat is surely a'world's record. "Recently a Ilega cow which produced milk registering 11 per cent, of fat was declared to bo a record • breaker, but this freak heifer beats that hollow. Sbo is a Jersey, and yields 2$ quarts of this rich, milk per day. ; It is. understood that Wisconsin .had- a calf which developed into a milk-producer without calving, and- it would be interesting to ■•know if there are any other cases."
