Auckland, January 6. , j In connection with the telegram announcing the increased price of sugar, rthe Colonial Sugar Company's representative points out. that, when they withKfrew the bonus.of 10s. per ton, whichi was made, illegal by the Act passed last I session, they reduced tho price of sugar rby a corresponding amount, .whilst , the ' r ßcale of 'discounts was, also' reduced to icbmi>ly with the same Act. There was i mothing to warrant the advance of 30s. [per ton spoken of in the telegram, and (the company considered that the advance would not be more than ss. per ton. Sugar was cheaper in New Zealand, than in.any other.part of the (■world, and the sugar most used , was 1 known'as No': la, and listed at £14 los. 'pf -the dealer took full advantage of ithe'discount the sugar at £14 jOs.' 3d., or equal to' ljd. per pound.
