PANIC IN A CHURCH.
EIGHTEEN LIVES LOST. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. New York, January 4. News of a disaster comes from Potosi, a town in the Nuevo Leon district, Mexico, and sixty-four miles- south of Monterey. While servico was in progress in the Church of St. Louis, a candle set fire to some of the decorations in honour of the New Year. Tho building was packed with people and a teri'iblo panic followed tho outbreak. Hundreds fought for the exit. Eighteen persons are believed to have perished. The church was burned to the ground.
