AN ERRING TRUSTEE.
PAWNS YOUNG LADY'S JEWELLERY. (By Telegraph.—Special CorrcGpondent.) Auckland, January 5. ' A chargo of stealing jewellery valued at ,£3, the property of Dolly M'Canley, was preferred at the Police Court yesterday against a young man named Oliver Charles Laurie. It appeared that Laurie had been keeping company with Miss M'Caulcy, who had entrusted him with the jewellery. Several times ho was asked for the articles, but each time ho offered • a different excuse. Eventually the young lady ascertained that L.iurio had pawned the jewellery, and the present proceedings were instituted. For the defence it was stated that the articles had only been pawned temporarily, and that the accused intended to recover them later on. The Magistrate said he would give Laurie a chance, and ordered him to coma up for sentence when called upon.
