MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
(Before Dr. A. M'Arthur, S.M.) POLICE CASES. Violet Campbell, a young woman with a lons list of previous convictions against her, was charged with escaping from the Salvation Army Home.' She had been Buitcnccd on December 19 to throe months' detention in the Homo, but left that institution- on Tuesday. Accused stated that she had not "cscaped," but lmd merely gone home to obtain a hat and coat. Sho also complained that llio room in which she lived was "full of diseased people." According to the police (he woman had given a good deal of trouble during the time she was at the Home. ... The magistrate imposed n sentence of two months' imprisonment, and according {o the Reformatory Institutions Act, the accused on being discharged from gaol will have to return to the Salvation Army Home to complete her period of detention. John M'Coll and William Whiteside, who had been discovered fighting at the .corner of Harbour Street and Victoria Street, both pleaded guilty to a charge of lining threatening behaviour. Whiteside had 28 previous convictions. The magistrate convicted both accused am! ordered them to come up for sentence when called upon,-on condition thnt they hit the city by an afternoon train. Jessie M'Cormack pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness, but denied being aa idle and disorderly rerson with in<
sufficient lawful menus of .support. The evidence of the police, however, was against her, and she was .sentenced U> tiirca months' imprisonment. Allan Steele? Kainsoy, on a charge of drunkenness, was fined -10s., in default 11 days' imprisonment. Ruby K'irk, alia." Prosser, was convietcd and discharged for drunkenness, but for breach of a prohibition order she was fined -iOh., in default It days' imprisonment'. James llogg, who had but recently been given, a chance when charged with drunkenno??, appeared for the same offence, and was fined 205., v.'ith the alternative of seven days' imprisonment. Luke I'nrrell, who had been found helplessly drunk on the previous day, was remanded for a week for medical treatment. '
