ON THE MOUNDS.

DISTRICT RIFLE CHAMPIONSHIP. AVON BY SERGEANT DODD. The annual district championship meeting of the Wellington Garrison Rifle Association was concluded at Trentham ye.<itcrday, the range, by good fortune, escaping the thunderstorm and drenching downpour of rain which visited the city and suburbs. The honouTs of the meeting fell to the Wellington City deifies, who have been scooping prizes right and left: this, summer, for in additionto winning several important events at the Palmerston Military Tournament on Monday, the company, in the person of one of its non-commissioned officers—Sergeant Dodd—won the Wellington rifle championship, the gold medal open championship, the Licensed Victuallers' Cup, and the King and Henry trophy. This is something like a record for honours at a rifle meeting, and Sergeant Dodd -is to be complimented on nis success. ,He finished with a clear lead of 10 points froiii Rifleman Bairstow, of the Opaki Club, who came second in the aggregate score for the championship matches. The special trophy presented by the president of the Karori Rifle Club (Rifleman U. Marshall), for the highest aggregate scorer among the tyros, was -won by Private Martin, of the' Highlanders, who aggregated 210 points for the championship matches. Gunner Morris, of the Garrison Artillery (Electric Light Section) won the special trophy presented" by the president of the Eastbourne Rifle Club for the highest aggregate score (tyro shot),, in the first three matches of the. chani--pionship series. . . . " On the highest aggregate scores for the> championship matches, the Opaki men; won the teams match with a scoro 1209 points.
