Reception and Profession, An impressive ceremony of reception and profession look place at St."Dominic's Priory, Dunedin, on Tuesday, December 27 (feast of St.' John the Evangelist). Those received were (says. the "Now Zealand Tablet'*): -Miss Irene Koran, Malvern, Victoria,- who was educated at the Catholic Training '. College, Melbourne. Her name in religion is Sister Mary AVinifred. Miss Mary Forde,. Riverton, Southland, known in religion as Sister Mary Theola; Miss Margnret Mnlhollnnd, Rnnfurly, Central Otngo (in religion, Sister Mary Clement). • .The young novice wlio made her final vows',-was Sister Mary Emily Mullin. His Lordship' Dr; Yerdon assisted; by Rev. J., Coffey, Adm., and Rev. .Ji'.LiSton,, Rector of -Holy Cross College. There were also present. Rev. Fathers Corcoran, D. O'Neill, C. Morkane, M. Scanlan. and J. Tobin, and Rev. D. ICavanagh. • A Pioneer Lady. ; Tho sons and grandsons of Mrs. Grant, relict of the late Mr. Robert Grant, assembled at Christmas at "Dannockburn" (Gladstone) to make her a presentation. Tho gift, took the form-of a silver tea service and tray suitably inscribed.. Mr. A; C. Holms made a .speech of felicitation and Mr. A.' S., Grant handed the present fp. his mother.' In 1855, .says the 'Wairarapa Standard," there were nine sons, of whom Mr. 'John Grant, is the oldest, two daughters and a sm-in-law,, air of whom used to assemble at tho-homestead on Christmas Day, but', twlay the family circle includes ,aH the foregoing except Mr. and Mrs. Holms, whose deaths occurred -in 1891 and 189 i respectively, as well as six-daughters-in-law',. one son-in-law, and 34 grandchildren. . It is'interesting to note that, Mrs. Grant, who .Was born at Port Gower, .Parish of Loth, SutherLandshiro, Scotland, in. 1834, .came to Australia-in tha ship Herald of the Morning ill 185-t----.55, leaving Liverpool in 'December, and landing in Melbourne (Victoria) after a voyage of about seven months''"duration. Mrs. Grant (then Miss Sutherland) came, •to New Zealand from Victoria in 1856, and- was married in' the same year to the late Mr. Grant. Mr. ■ Wm. M'Leod, of "Hillside," : Martinborough, was best man, and' Mrs. Jos. M'Leod (then Sties Sutherland) was bridesmaid. Tho lato Miss Selina Sutherland, so well known for her magnificent yhilanthropic work in Sydney and .'Melbourne,.' was a sister of Mrs.- Grant.
