4 . OTAGO AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP; (By Telegraph—l'ress Association.) Dunedin, December 31. Play in connection with the amateur , gclf championship of Qtago commenced this morning. At the start .heavy rain swept the links, and, in consequence, a number el' golfers did not turn out, while these who did received a thorough soaking. Shortly after 11 o'clock, however, the weather cleared, and tho afternoon was perfect. ~ The sixteen best scorers in tbe two rounds of medal play qualify for taking part in the final rounds.
