LANDING THE PATIENT, (By, Telegraph,—Press Association.) Christchurch, December 31. • Shortly after noon to-day Br. Finch, district health .officer, accompanied by Dr. TTpham, port health officer, and a nurse, went off in the steamer Purau to the Knight of the Garter. The second officer, Mr. H. M'Cullough, who, it is stated, has developed smallplos, was lowered from tho biff steamer to tho launch, and two passengers (Mr. ; and Mrs.; Dodds)' also left the vessel. The patient is. reported to be progressing very favourably. A large supply of formalin was taken off to the steamer, and tho second officer's.. quarters were thoroughly fumigated._ The Purau afterwards steamod to Quail Island, where the patient was. landed, and taken to the. hospital, whero comfortable quarters have been, procured for „him. Nurse Timms. has bi-avely volunteered to nurse the patient, and has also takt-n up heT residence in the lama building. Dr. Upham will bs in attendance on the case, and will visit tho patient from Xvttelton regularly. Mr. and Mrs. Dodd, wlio have elected to spend their . fortnight in quarantine at Quail Island, have alsa taken up quarters in one of the buildings! adjacent to the hospital. Tho Knight' of the Garter will probably lie in the stream for a few days before leaving for Auckland, where she will remain in quarantine until January 13. All on board are reported well. fThere is no need for alarm on tho part of the public, according to tho Hon. D. Buddo, Minister for Public Health. The Knight of the Garter was not allowed alongside the wharf, and communication between the ship and the shore had been stopped until tho vaccination of those on board bad become effective.]
