Laffont (not tho naval officer and aviator of tho same name) was aeroplaning at a height of 125 ft., when the left plane of his machine snapped. The machine turned a somersault, and then camo to tho ground. M." Laflont's skull was fractured, and ono of his arms was driven into his body. His throat was pierced by a splinter of wood. FALL OF FOUR HUNDRED FEET. (Rec. December 29, 9.20 p.m.) Rio de Janeiro, December 29. Signor Picolio, an .Italian, while aeroplaning at Sao Paolo, fell 400 feet and was killed. SOME FAST FLYING. (Rec. December 80, 0.25 a.m. ) New York, December 29. Mr. J. Radley won the "Aerial Derby" at the Los Angeles aviation meeting. He covered 8j miles in 9min. 13 l-sseo., and flew several laps at the rate of a mile a minute. Mr. Radley used a Blcriot monoplane.
