■ ■■'. — fr —-— NATIVES AND PRIESTS. (By Telegraph—Press Association Copyright) Sydney, December 29. Dr. Brochard, French Commissioner at Wallis Island, is visiting Sydney. Ho stated. that-tho Catholic priests will probably be expelled from the island, ami added: : "The natives sonic timo ordered the priests—five :in number—to leave. They (the .priests) took no notice, but imported rifles and ammunition, and distributed 'them among tho . friendly natives. They deposed the' king and appointed a kini! of their own. choice. The priests have been getting most of the money for the copra,, the natives doing all the work. The priests roado. the natives build houses'and churches without pay." Dr. Brochard intends placing tho matter before the. French authorities at Noumea.
