PIPE BAND PICNIC.
The Wellington Pipe Band and Dancers' Club ; held their annual picnic at Maidstone Park- on Monday, 7 when over 100 members, ; with their wives and families and friends, spent a most enjoyable day. Sports ivere provided ' for old and young. Highland and figure dancing were indulged in to the skirl o' the pipes, with real Scotch enthusiasm. The outiug proved such a success that it is . the intention of the committee to hold a similar one in the near future. . The following are the winners of the sports events:—lOOyilsi- Handicap.—J. Simpson, I;.Cochrane. 2. GOyds. Married Ladies' Race,—Mrs. J. -Tavlor, 1: Mrs. B. Anderson, ■2. 100 yds. Boys' Race.— M'Donald, 1; Alex. Ifeid, jun., ,2. 75yds. Girls' Race.—Flora M'Donald, 1;/Lizzie Rsid, 2. 75yds. Young Ladies' Race — Elsie M'Donald, 1; Violet M'Donajd, 2. Hop, Step, and Jump—Cochrane, I;'J. Cant,' 1 2. Putting the Shot.—Alex. Pcid,. sen.', 1. Mrs. J. Taylor also won .Mrs. Heid's prize of a handsome clock. The secretary,' Mi'. Alex Shaw, acted as. clerk of the course, and Mr. W. E. Boyd as liandicapper and starter..
