HOLIDAY ATTRACTIONS.

THE NEW "YEAR LIST. ; There will be ample holiday attractions in and about the city ] during the' New Year holidays. The Naval and Military Tourney at Palmerston North will begin on Saturday, and will extend, over Monday.. ■ Large entries have -been"received,--tea' corps from all parts of the Dominion and from Australia contesting the Lloyd-Lindsay, cockade fight, tent-pegging,-wrestling-on horseback, and the tug-of-war. The crack infantry corps of tho Dominion will, be "competing for the physical drill championship of New Zealand. Tho feature of the night display, will lie the brilliant lighting of the grounds- arid buildings, searchlight play, and fireworks. Special trains have been arranged for, leaving Palmerston for Wellington and intermediate stations ,at 10.30' p.m. on New -Year's Night. ■ _ The Harbour - ' Ferries Company , is making special arrangements for the carryiug of trippers to Day's Bay on the Monday. •

Bellevue Gardens, at the' Hutt, Mason's Gardens, Taita, and the Karori Gardens all offer attractions which should appeal to many holiday-makers. ' Wonderland will .'tolaim its, hundreds, and tho never-failing side shows of the popular Miraraar fun garden will doubtless teem with life. Lovers of the turf will be catered for on Monday by tho Wairarapa Eating Club's meeting at Tauherenikau, "and the Rangitikei Racing . Club's ! meeting at Bulls. The Waikanae Hack Racing Club will ho.'d its annual gathering at Waikanae. ■ . The Port Nicholson Cycling Club will hold a cycling and athletic sports carnival at the Basin Reserve on Monday afternoon.The Williamson Comic Opera Company will bo performing at tho Opera Houso throughout, the holidays, and will produce a new piece, "The Waltz Dream," on Monday night., A special.vaudeville prograriimo is being arranged at the Theatre Roya! for tho Monday evening, and specially-arranged picturo entertainments will be given at His Majesty's Theatre the King's Theatre, Star Pictures, St! Thomas's Hall, Queen's Pictures, Victoria Hall, and another special picture entertainment by Messrs. l'uller and Son* at the Town IIali: Tho Wellington Bowling Centres' championship tournament will be commenced on the city' greens on Monday, and will extend over Tuesday.. ■ .
