Fletcher, chairman -' if the Wellington Harbour Board, gave ; instructions , for the erection of barriers on the wharves, to ba usedbon the occasion of the - arrival and '■ departure of passenger steamers. No person will bo allowed to enter the enclosure without a passenger ticket, pass, or Harbour Board tickqt. These tickets will be obtainable at. the Inquiry and Tolls Office at tho head of-the Queen's Wharf, or at the barriers, at- a cost, of 3d.' each; In the position, Mr. Fletcher stated that he wished it to be .clearly understood that the' Harbour ' Board Is not aiming to make, revenue 'out of the new order 6f 'things, 'for the proceeds from the sale of tickets, will but help to pay .for the extra officials who will be necessary for this special work, The convenience and comfort of the travelling public are the board's first consideration. The public will still, havei the wharves to use "as promenades, as it is only where the berthage places, are .that the barriers will be placed. The new regulation meets with the commendation of . the local manager of the Union Steamship Company, llr. .Kennedy, and in- future the wharf ticket office will be placed Tight, outside the barriers, arid away from them. '. On arrival .of the Margina.from Sydney yesterday- the temporary barricade, which was'used; was much apnreciated by passensors disembarking. Last, night, prior : to the denarture of the Maori for Lyttelton, the. barrier tickets were on-sale for the. first-time, and;.l2o persons purchased them. . -
