HOLIDAY TRAFFIC.

NEW HECOKDS IN CHPJSTCHI'KCH. liiy Telegraph.—l'ross Association.! Christchurch, December 28. Though tho final returns of the Christmas passenger traffic .on'the railways and trams have not yet been made up, there is sufficient data available to show that the ' figures for tha previous Christmas have been surpassed. The railways were extremely busy on Christmas Eve, and on Monday .last, and it is expected that the returns will disclose that Monday was the best passenger day. On Tuesday, also, there was heavy, passenger traffic. During the holiday season four express trains have been dispatched daily trom Christchurch, two going through to Dunedin, one to Oamaru, and the other to Timaru. Last Christmas three expresses wore worked up to their fullest capacity, and this season extra provision was made to cope with the anticipated increase. The Christchurch tramways have had a very good Christmas season, the receipts for the four days from the 21th to the 27th inclusive exceeding those ,of the corresponding period of last year by over .£453. This is due to some extent "to the circumstanco that there. were really two Boxing Days, Monday and Tuesday. There, was no disposition to regard Monday (the holiday given for celebration as Christmas), as Christmas Day or a religious holiday and. the tram'.traffic was very largo on that day. The fine weather suited the trams, and the extra holiday enabled tho service to secure the revenue which it missed through . bad weather on Anniversary Day. "WANGANTTI TRAMS BUSY. (By TeU'sraph.—Special. CorrttiDondeatl Wanganui, December 2S. The local tramways had a very busy time during tho Christinas • holidays, fhe takings for tho four days being £182, or £ot) more than for the same period last year.
