TRAIN DERAILED.
,; COLLIDES WITH A COW. (By Telegraph—Press Association.). Hokitika, December 27. An accident occurred on the HokilikaGreyinouth section of the railway at about 1.15. o'clock on Sunday morning,' when a train which had left Hokitika at. 1 o'clock : was derailed, as the result of a' cow wandering en; the line. Fortunately there were.no passengers. on the train, which consisted of only two carriages. One of these was overturned, and the engine eventually found a ' resting, place in a pond of water.. The line was ploughed ui) for about two chains, and over this distance almost every slrcper was brokon. A pong of ,',v^rl- •■■-". dispatched from Greymouth shortly after S o'clock on Sunday morning, and, aftei clearing the track and connecting. the rails with a loop line, returned to Greymouth. ; The guard, engine-driver, and fireman each received a severe shaking. It is expected that the engine willnot bo liftod on the rails from its present position until next Sunday, but the carriage's, which were only slightly damaged, were brought to Hokitika. .
