Gin. beam, and . will have a total, displacement of 50,000 '-~■ tons thereby' exceeding the tonnage of the Olympic by 5000 tons. The new Cu- '. nai'der will have a speed of 23 knots, against 21 of the Olympic, and 25 of the ■ ilauretania and the Lusitania. It is not decided whether one or two vessels will be built. The plans have been approved, by Lloyd's. The huge ship will cost two millions sterling. Nothing is known a's to whether the Government will be asked to grant a subsidy. She will be propelled by turbines and will bo fitted'to carry oil fuel should it ■ be considered prudent to uso it. Her accommodation . will include a Turkish bath, swimming pond, and theatre stags, "• yho will accommodate ,1)50 first saloon, 740 second saloon, and 2JOO third sa-loon,-or n total of 3(80 passengers. She will have four funnels. With the new ' British steamer of the Cunard Line, may be compared the similar vessel just laid down on the slips of the Stettin-Vulcan shipbuilding Company, for" ike Hamburg-Amerika Line, This ship will ho 881 ft. Jong, as compared with 885} ft. of the new Cunarder, while her beam, 100 ft., will be -t.jft. more. The tonnage of the two vessels will be the same-yiiamely, 50,000 tons. . Accommodation is to be provided for. 5000 passengers.. The commander's bridge will project 77ft.. above the water when the shit '* fully lodded, and the wast will .vkn.
