From the meagre particulars to hand it appears that, about ten o'clock last night, a servant girl (Miss Mort) :: was : awakened by the crackling of fire, and immediately saw that, one of the walls of her room was ablaze. The terrified girl leaped; out of bed, and, seeing tho wholo house in flames, she rushed to awaken.two men who wtre on premises, engaged /as milkers. To the girl's screams the men responded quickly. By that time tho house was in flames, and it was only with difficulty that they, got there. The door was locked, and,' there-being no response.to their alarm, they rammed the door open with -' -. alltheir might. Plunging into- the roonv they fell across Mrs. Davis's prostrate body on the floor. It would appear that she had got up in alarm, and had been suffocated. The men then rushed to Jlr. Davis, who was in bed, and, pulling him out, they found only the ■' charred body of a dead man.
