There were no committees, 110, bringing down of - big preachers or special lecturers, 110 canvassing. One Sunday tho congregation were told, in tho course of tho pulpit announcements, what was needed. Tho reasons for it. were plainly set forth, and everybody, was informed that the collection would be made the followinc b'mday. On the • great day the pastor occupied the'pulpit as usual. The offertory was taken at the 'usual point- in' the service.. Thcro was no fuss, no fervid or humorous or sensational plead-, ing. But. when the day ended- the collection was found .t0..b0 £11,200! The effort was well distributed over the whole congregation. Much..of it was actually oil the plate in currency notes. Where tho money was not. paid, tho promise handed in ran thus: '1.0. U. dollars —-—, with interest thereon at .5 per cent, per annum until the date of payment."'
