BISHOP WELLDON ON DISESTABLISHMENT.
Bishop Welldon, writing on the "Probablo Effects of Disestablishment," in the "Nineteenth Century," says:— "Upon the whole, it seems that the establishment of a Church, or in other words the national acknowledgment'of religion, is a matter about- which thinkers of equal intelligence and sincerity may not unreasonably hold different opinions. What tho future may hold , in store for the Church of Eng--Jaairl is known to God alouo. Bu* wlie-
tlicr.the national Church remains established and endowed or not; 110 Churchman can forget that noither establishment nor endowment is vital to the wilig of tlio Church. .The ono thing vital is fidelity to the peisoii and the Uospel of Jesus Christ. If His Spirit and His Presence are lost, the Church is dying or dead. But so long as He is with'her, then, whether, she Co established or disestablished, endowed or disendowed, sho can go her way in peace."
