"DELIBERATELY PLANNED."

MR, MASSEY TAKES THE GLOVES OFF. The following reply has been received from Mr. W. i\ Massoy in response to the address presented to him. by women of. Wellington in connection with the scurrilous; attempt, to. associate the Opposition party-with the Black pamphlet 1 : The President, . ( Women's Branch Reform League, Wellington.

Dear Madame, : — I have the _honour to acknowledge receipr~of~ah address signed ' by' yourself 'ahdim'any hundreds of i , the Women'i I BfAUcn of the Reform i League and other worneui resident ih Wellington, expressing sympathy with myself in the, recent, deliber-ately-planned attempt to connect us • with the publication of - what you very appropriately call the "Black pamphlet." - ' I can assure you we have no objection to-fair party.. tactics, and wo are prepared to.meet, and deal with such tactics at any time ; but in all my experience I have never met anything so unfair or discreditable to those coucerned as the incident to which you refer, and which has roused the' indignation not only ■"' of--the -women of Wellington, .but ■: 'of right-thinking people all over New Zealand. Many have said, to me ■ they considered the attempt to make Opposition members responsible for its publication was worse than the pamphlet itself, and certainly not / playing the game as honourable men understand it.. .1 have to thank you and your colleagues for your prompt and well- ; expressed sympathy and support—. • which I need hardly say are highly appreciated by every member who sits on the Opposition side of the House. I remain, etc., W. F. MASSEY. Mangere, December 12, 1910.
