Yesterday afternoon Mr. Percy .Easson, of Easson, Ltd., Kilbirnie, was the recipient of a handsome pair of binoculars from the employees of the firm on the eve of his departure on a tour of -Australia, Canada-, and-United States. The presentation was made by the foreman, Mr. W. O'Brien. Mr. Easson will bo away from New Zealand for about sis months.

A Press Association telegram from Auckland, received yesterday morning, announces the death of - ittr. Patrick Darby, of that city,, at the age of 77 years. The late Mr. Darby was one of Auckland's best known and most liberal citizens. He was a devoted son of the Roman Catholic Church, jind took a keen interest in its affairs, so far as a layman could. He came to New Zealand in the early, 'sixties, and for a groat number of years was proprietor and licensee of the Thistle Hotel, Queen Street, Auckland, from which he had retired for some time before his death. He had .a family of ten children, and among, them were Dr. Darby, medical officer Auckland Gaol; Rev. Father Darby, rector of St. Mary's, Hamilton; Mr. B. F. Darby, chemist, Marton; and Mr. P. B. Darby, formerly of Wellington. A daughter of Mr. • Martin Kennedy, -Wellington, is a daughter-in-law; of the late Mr. Darby. .

The Wellington master printers and master builders have decided to recommend Mr. Wm. Scott as the employers' representative in the Arbitration Court, and Mr. Wm. Pryo'r as acting representative of their interests on that tribunal.

Mr. Rudman, formerly assistant master at the Wellington College, and now headmaster at the . Thames High School, is - spending the Christmas in Wellington. :

• Mr-. Percy Jeffries, a . Palmerston 'North, dentist-and a well-known entertainer, is leaving that town to take up his residence in Wellington. He was a member of the Palmerston North Savage Club and Working Men's Club.

Mr. D. M'Laren, M.P., left for Rotorua yesterday on a holiday visit.

Mr. R. Breen, secretary of the Otago Trades Council, who came to Wellington in connection with the visit of Mr. J. Hodge, M.P., returned to the south last night.
