A Carterton'Wedding. The wedding of Mr. Anthony Conwell, second son of Mr. T. Conwell,, of Belvedere, to Miss Olive Sewell, third daughter of tho late Mr. W. J. Sewell, took place at St. Mark's Church, Car-, tertori, on Tuesday afternoon. The brido woro a white, embroidered frock and tho usual veil and orange blossoms. Sho was attended by Miss E. Sewell '(her sister) and Miss Florrio Bond as brides T maids. A reception was held at the residence of Mrs. A. Archcr (sister to the brido). Mr. and Mrs. Conwell will make their home at Belvedere. Cirls' Realm Culld. Some of the children of tho city, were once more remembered by the members of the Lady Plunket Centre of the Girls' Realm Guild (or rather by the few energetic members that the Centre possesses) last evening, when somo fifty children and their, mothers were given an entertaining time. . Tea at length, being over, games Were played,- and several of the members, including the Misses Mueller, Cohen, Ross, Dimant, Hamilton; Moss, Christie, and Hurley (3), contributed to! tho evening's programme. At the'conclusion of the evening the Christmas Tree, which had once, looked, so bright with sparkling' toys,'' was a dismal wreck. Spdcial thanks are duo to Miss E. Hurley, who- collected the toys, to. the Rev. Aspland for tho use of the churchroom, and to Messrs. Kean, Bolton, King, and Morris for their voluntary, help, in the shape of toys and books, of which there was ah overflow-, ing abundancp.' Tho evident enjoyment of tho children and the ringing cheers 'they gave when leavitigj amply repaid the girls for their efforts. Coldcn Wedding.
i-Oil Tuesday the golden, weddiiig' of Mr. and Mrs. W v -Willis was celebrated : at Featherston,.in the presence of a largo number of friends and relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Willis Jjave lived in Fea-. . therston for at least twenty-seven years. They have a family of five sons and three daughters, all -of whom, save ono daughter, are married. There aro thirty-two grand-children, ' A luncheon j wa . s , r g,i rcn at the homo of -tho eldest '■dtriiglfior (Mrs. D. G. Ytrie) for tho family, who, with tho exception of the eldest son, were all present. In the afternoon a garden party was given, a large number of friends attending it. The Sunshine Guild. The members of tlio Sunshine Guild cntertaiued a host of small friends yesterday afternoon, in the rooms of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, Constable Street. From all over the place they came, even , as- far away as i Ljajl ]jay, and judging by tlieir,faces, seemed to be having a very happy time. It is, hard to imagine that there can bo any ..-children left in "Wellington wno have not, in some form or another been "Christmasing," for every day nearly one hears of Christmas trees or festivities of some kind or another taliing .place.- -Yesterday tho pleasures'began with a delightful tea, ,and after that had been disposed of Mr. Lamb, a member of tlio Sunshine Guild in England, gave a recitation. Although fascinated eyes would wander, and linger upon .the Christmas tree, gay with distracting toys, around which they were seated, they appeared to thoroughly enjoy the recitation, and vigorously applauded. The dismantling of the treo then began, and if every child did not happen to get, its heart's desire it seemed to be very - satisfied with the substitute. Tho toys were purchased «" h the proceeds of the sale of work, held by the members of the guild a snort time ago. A Presentation. V A very pleasant time was -spent on Tuesday, w'lien about forty of the members of the M omen s Social and Political League gathered at the home 'of _Mrs. Moore (tho secretary) for the purpose of presenting her with a token of regard in recognition of -the energy and unselfishness with which slio has furthered the work of tlio league'.' Mesdames Kea-ISrbwn and Tasker (vicepresidents) were.-among- those -present, bongs and .recitations were contributed and an amusing competition held, m which Mrs. won the first.prise Mrs. Galliclian the second, and Mrs' Mudge tho "booby." Mrs. Kea-Browir in making the presentation, spoke most appreciatively of Mrs. Moore's faithful and zealous work for the league. » Feilding Notes. Mrs. Cotterill returned to Feildine last: week. ■ Mrs. Gillespie left on Saturday for tho South Island. 1 , Mr ; l an( ' .• Glasgow have returned, after spending several weeks in the South Island. _ _Mrs. Horrocks is visiting her mother, Mrs. Quillinm, at New Plymouth. A most successful entertainment was held on Tuesday in the Parish Hall m connection with St. John's Church' In the afternoon a Christmas Tree, laden with toys, was a great attraction, and _in the evening a splendid concert, with Mrs. Jarley's waxworks. Among those present were Mcsdames Innes-Jones, Gorton, Corfe, Miles, Wil- . lis, Audrey, Bailey, Woollams, Luxmore, M'Allum, Stewart, Long, Walker, and many others.
