MAORI LAD'S TRAGIC DEATH. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Wbangarei, December 21. Jolm Pitman, u Maori youth, aged 14 years and ton months, was caught in log-winding gear at M'Kinstry Wilkinson's sawmill yesterday evening, and carried thrice round the drum in the wire, coils. Death was practically instantaneous. At an inquest this morning a verdict of accidental death, with no blame attaeliablo to.anyone, was returned. "THE HORSE FELL WITI-I HIM." Wairoa, December 21. A Nativo named Toko Kereru, a resident of Ilikawai l'a, who had been missing silico Saturday last, was yesterday found dead in a hollow near a camp. It was evident that the liorso tho deceased had been riding had fallen with him,i and that the man, whilo endeavouring, to get up, was kicked or trampled
