Mr. Spencer Lorraine, the well-known teacher of - singing, will spend his Christmas at New Brighton, as tho guest of Mr. Robert Home, manager of the Dresden Piano Company in Christchurch. Mr. Archibald M'Donald, builder, an old resident of Wellington, 'lied at his residence, liajoribanks Street, on Sunday. He v/as 7U years of age. Mr. Frank Lampen, who has been appointed one of the Adjutants (Infantry) tor Iho Wellington district, is well known in this city as an amateur actor of more than ordinary ability. He has been one of the most valued members of the .Mountebank' Dramatic Company, for which body he has played many partsall well. Air. Lampen has soldier blood in his veins, beiiif; a soldier son of a soldier's son. His father was the late General Lampen, of the Indian Army.; one of his brothers is Colonel John Lampen, Officer Commanding oi-.e of the Ibjpul regiments, at present in Northwest India; aqd another brother is Captain Charles Lampen, Intelligence Officer to the Admiralty (Royal Marines). Mr. Lampen, after a public school education in England, entered the Royal Military 'College i>t Sandhurst, where he secured a Queer India cadetship. Taking up the'sclioiarshin, ho served some time in the Indian Army. Whilst in that country he made,a spr~ial study of signalling, aud was awarded a snecial certificate for this work at Poona. Being of on adventurous spirit, he went. north at the. time of the Russo-Japanese War, and for a time attached himself .to the Russian Army as a signaller round about Chemulpo, Seoul, and Dalny, prior to the fall of Port Arthur. During his residence in Wellington Lieut. Lampen has bpen employed in the pharmacies of Mr. Dunbar Sloane and Mr: Frank Shaw.
