Many public men, including railway •officials, yesterday■ witnessed a successful . trial of an electric invention by Mr. Arthur Angus, for the prevention of railway ..collisions. The invention consists in the fitting of engines with an electric generator, the locomotive being adapted to make contact with certain appliances near the rails at tho ends of tho sections into which the lino is divided.

Once contact is made the scctioh is closed. absolutely as soon as the train enters, and as it leaves an indicator shows, that the section is clear. Two trains cannot bo on the same section toIf one is in a section and the other js approaching steam- is 'automatically shut off and the brakes' applied. ,
