WIRELESS INTERFERENCE. Newspaper dispatches relate that a wireless operator way charged in the City Court at Buffalo on September 28 with having wilfully prevented the transmission of a wireless message from tho steamer Western States on September 21, when disabled in Lake Erie, off Long Point. The operator on the steamer tried for several hours to call up assistance, both from Buffalo and from Erie, but, it i;s alleged, that an opposition company, for which the defendant worked, interfered and ''smothered" the. wireless signals from the boat. It is stated that the •maximum penalty for this offence in New York is four years' imprisonment. Consequently, the Paparoa, which left for Lyttelton en route for London, took 9760 crates from Patea and Wellington and loads 800 crates-at-Lyttelton. Two of; the Union Company's steamers were , delayed last night in leaving Weilington. The Maori did not cloar for Lyttelton until 8.30 owing to a breakdown on tho New Plymouth-Wellington mail train, and the Monowai did not get away for northern port 6 until 0.25 a.m. to-day.
