MISSIONS TO SEAMEN.

The "Bear-a-Hand Club" in connection with the Missions to Seamen met in full l'orco on Tuesday night to do honour to their fellow member, Mr. J. S. Cummings, who leaves for an extended holiday shortly. They took advantage of the opportunity (through tho Missioner, Mr. J. Moore) to present him with a travelling case. In doing so Mr. Moore spoke of tho largo amount of time devoted to the work by Mr. Cummings and tho many acts of usefulness which ho had carried out for years past. Mr. Gardner (organist) also said some cheery words and Mr. Cummings responded. The remainder of the evening was devoted to pleasant discussion and music, and light refreshments were served. . ' /

. The Missions to Seamen Institute waa crowded on Wednesday.evening, when tho members of St. Andrew's Choir, under the direction of Mr. Bowley, provided a very enjoyable concert. Mr... James Moore, the raissioner. occupied the chair. Tho following contributed items to the programme:—Pianoforte solo, Miss Scott; humorous ,■ recitations, the Rev. Gibson Smith; song;, Miss Copeland; song, Mrs. Fletcher. "The choir rendered several glees, Mr. Rowley acting as accompanist. Several noputnr choruses were sung by the audience, Mr. -.Carpenter (R.M.S. P.otorua) playing-, tho accompaniments, and a conundrum'-..competition'- was won by sailovs from ships in port. During a'short interval the. missioner 'delivered an earnest address on tho temperance question, resulting in fifteen men taking the plcdgo of total abstinence. The performers'were accorded a hearty , vote of thanks at the conclusion, of the concert, !>ud light refreshments were dispensed.
