The strike leaders express their willingness to meet tho employers at another conference. They stato that they are prepared for a big tussle unless the employers concede their demands. The effects of the strilto aro becoming widely felt, and • tho prices of milk, groceries, and produce are rapidly advancing. In some cases they have doubled and trebled. Coal is getting very scarce, and many works will be compelled to close, failing a quick settlement. A sensational development took placo to-day, when tho men employed at the electric power works refused to handle the coal, declaring it to have been brought ,to tho works by non-unionists.' This meant that tho trams would have to ceaso running. After a conference between the Premier, the chairman of the Tramway Trust, and representatives of the Drivers' Union,, it was announced that a settlement was ■reached whoreby the trams will continne running, at least for to-day. . FRUITLESS CONFERENCE. Adelaide, Decemb'er 15. The conference between the employers and ethployees in the transport trade sat till after midnight, and then ended in-a doadlock. " ■ Serious trouble is expected.
