A gymkhana and "fancy fair, held at Utaki this week, and' 1 organised to raise iunds for the erection : ,of a vicarage, proved a success. The weather conditions were all ; that could be desired, while the arrangements were, on the whole, complete. The ladies of the committee'- had worked assiduously for. several weeks, and their efforts materialised: in a very fine, array of goods, produce,, etc., which were displayed in various stalls, and supervised by the ladies themselves, assisted by several' younger folks. There were numerous buyers, and consequently very good business was transacted; There were also several side-shows. The sporting committees (especially that'll?, chargo of the horse events) had also worked hard, and their labours wero well rewarded .by .numerous'entries, and', some good sport. The four events in this section were responsible for no.fete" than 80 entries. The foot competitions were all well contested. To. add to the pleas- . tire of the day's outing, the Wereroa Training' Parm Band (pipe and brass) were present, and played a number of selections. In the. evening a..concert was held, when the Town Hall was ' well nlled. ~ .
