At last nighfs' meeting of the Onslow Borough Council the Mayor, Mr. J. G. Harkness, informed councillors that he would be leaving the Dominion for six months on December 29 next, and. asked for the necessary permission. He 'toos .'ha Opportunity of thanking councillors for the assistance which .ho stated they had always given him, and also said that, as he would not be back in-time for the Mayoral election, lie would leave his nomination papers with a friend, to bo used as that friend thought fit. On the motion' of Councillor. Lynneberg, the necessary leave was granted.

Mr. L. Muir, editor of the "Poverty Bay. Herald," and Mrs. Muir t leave on a trip to England and America in February next. The Rev. P. B. Eraser, having accepted the position' of Superintendent of Home Missions of the Presbyterian Assembly, will resign his. seat on the Otago Education Board. 'He intends to settle in the North Island. ■ Mr. W. C. Kensington, Under-Secretary for Lands, is at present inspecting tho works which are 'being carried out on tho Hnuraki Plains by the Lands Department. Sir. Roland H. Cate, who has been in the employ of tho Dresden Piano Company for six years and who is leaving for, America, received a presentation from the manager on behalf of the employees. Mr. Cate was also the recipient , of an address from his fellow employees. Mr. S. S. Williams, of Taranalti Street, well known in bowling circles and a member of the Wellington Industrial Association, is leaving on a trip to England in March next. Mr. Eric Whitcombe, of Whitcombo and Tombs, returned on Wednesday from nn oxtended visit to England and the Continent. .' Messrs.. S. Cartnell and Thomas Duller have been appointed members of the Napier Harbour Board. Mr, John Johnston, of Mangaweka, n.-.D resigned his appointment as a Justice of the Peace. Mr. Thomas Henry Wilson, for somo years connected with the head office of the Railway Department, has been appointed a judge of the' Nativo Land Court. Mr. Willie Donovan, M.Sc., is gazetted an analyst under the Salo of Food and Drugs Act, 1008. Mr. Win. 31. Wright has been appointed Government statistician under tho Census and Statistics Act, 1010. Mr. Moriarty lias, as a result of a contest in which there were three aspirants, again been elected. secretary to the Wellington branch of the Wellington Furniture Trades Union.
