MASTERTON NOTES.
« (From Our Spucial Correspondent.) Masterton, December .15. A charming little entertainment was given in the iiansdowno School last evening by the children. There-was a crowded attendance of the public, and the efforts of the little performers, who had .been coached by , their master, Mr. Drumlnond, were very highly appreciated. In the Magistrate's Court this morning, before Mr. L. G. lipid, S.M., a ease was heard in which' luessrs. Nicol and, Edwards, land agents, of Masterton,' claimed «£3Q from W. Carey, farmer, of Konini, for the balance, alleged to be. owing as commission, on the sale of a property. After hearing evidence, ' nis Worship non-suited plaintiffs, with .£2 Ss. lOd. costs. . A pleasant littlo ceremony was performed at the District High School at Masterton this morning, when tho children of : the higher classes presented Messrs. Hnslain and Miller, two of the teachers, with souvenirs. The gifts were suitably acknowledged. Tlie breaking-up ceremony at St. Bride's Convent- took place last oven-: ing, when a very fine programme was presented. The prizes were presented by his Worship the Mayor (Mr. J. M. Coradine). A sitting of the Ikaroa Native Land Council was held in Masterton to-day. The necessity for establishing a fat stock market in this district, similar to that .of Addingtcn; is again being urged. This matter was mentioned some months ago by Mr. William Perry at the meeting of the A. and P. Association. Heavy rain fell in the district last night, and it is not expected that it will be possible for the Hawkc Clip cricket match between Manawatu and WairLira pa to be played to-morrow. .
