The council left the matter to its engineer, who will confer with tho Harbour Board engineer. The borough engineer reported that the amount of wages for the last three weeks was .£75 19s. lid., of 'which ,£2u ss. is charged against Brnndou Street and .£2O 2s. Cd. against Princes Streets The extra men who had been employed at the reservoir had been dispensed with on December 11. The total amount of reservoir wages, including dray hire, from October 18 to December 15, had been <£252 'Is. 4d. The total cost of the work on the site was 4:291 2s. From that ,£23 6s. had to be deducted for cartage on 700 cubic yards carted along Townsend Road. The excavation had been carried out at'2s. a yard. Mr. Jfestayer-had estimated' 2s. Cd. " The rcesnt alteration by Ihe Ci(.y r Council in the running of.workers' cars was hot favourably received by some of the councillors, who held'that the new arrangement affected residents to their disadvantage. Accounts for <£218 7s. were passed for I payment. The bank balance of Ihe district fund account was stated lo bo J-12G Is. Id. The improvements loan account has a bank balance of JU597 2s. 5(1. Councillor Tiichards gave notice that lie would move at. next meeting, "That the 9.G p.m. car from Wellington bo run through to Scatnun."
