Alexandra Louvima ICnollys, daughter of Lord Ivnollys, G.C.8., private secretary to tl«a King, has been awarded iivo hundred pounds damages against the newspaper "John Bull," for alleging that slio had eloped to the Continent. HEAVY DAMAGES AWARDED. London, December 13. Mr. P. C. Simmonds, who was a candidate for St. George's in the East seat (for which Mr. AT. Wedgwood Benn was returned) at the general eledtion in January last, has been awarded <£5000 damages in an action against the "Daily Chronicle" for alleged libel. The statements complained of in Mr. Simmonds's libel action were that the "Chronicle," in support of Mr. Benn's candidature, alleged that Mr. Simmonds helped to throw three thousand people out of work, and had thrico voted against the feeding of poor children.
