BROOKLYN AFFAIRS.

• -i A special general meeting of the Brooklyn Municipal Electors' Association was held at the State School, Brooklyn, last evening, Mr. J.. C. Brown being in the clij.ir. The object of the meeting was to receive ,the interim report of the executive. . The report stated that tho tram service is now very satisfactory, and that residents appreciate the efforts of the council in providing such a service. Fire alarms are '. to" bo .procured in ...various', parts.of the district,, and. an up-to-date ambulance-stretcher is now located at the local fire station. An endeavour will also be made to have ambulance lectures delivered during the next winter. The 'Spur" track has been put in order and will receive gravelling before the winter, lho drainago system is now finished, and many connections have already been made. A better class of metal is being' used on the. streets, and it is hoped that, .when* the. drainage connections have been completed, the more important streets will bo asphalted. The Tanera Crescent Reserve has been sot aside for a recreation ground,,.but this will requiro a great amount of levelling before it will be of much use. The City Council is waiting for property holders in private streets to move in the direction of uniting and requesting it to take action under the Empowering Bill passed last year. The streets referred to in the Bill are:—Sugar Loaf Road, Ruben Avenue, Charlotte Avenue, Bruco Avenue, Loura Avenue, Bond Street, Dorking Road, Holimvood Road, Brighton Terrace, and Victoria Terrace. Clauses 0 and 7 empower .tho council prior to commencing\vork.,.in private streets:"-to agreed with property holders thatthe latter shail paynot more than half the. cost, of such' work, and, in the "event" of the council not being able to obtain the consent of all the ratepayers, those dissenting mav be sued for, payment, which is recoverable ns rates with interest at G per cent., always provided that a majority of the ratepayers interested aro willing-for tho work to be undertaken.
